Pulling Off The Impossible

Morlite Aluminium were key players in creating the stunning Orokonui Ecosancturary Visitor Centre, completed in 2010. This project won Morlite the Commercial $100,000 And Over Award, and the Supreme Winner Award in the Window Association of New Zealand’s Design Flair Awards, held in June 2011. “This environmentally sustainable centre was designed by Dunedin architect Tim Heath of Architectural Ecology. Tim paid tribute to the teams of joiners and contractors that coaxed this difficult asymmetrical form into a reality,” says Brent Griffin from Morlite Aluminium.

The 5 Star Green building impressed the judges enough to award Morlite the top award of the night. “It’s in this class that the heavyweights come head to head – mano a mano. Large aluminium extrusions and panels, beautifully twisting sun control screens, one of the few well worked double glazing facades in NZ, expensive high performance glasses are all featured,” said the judges.

Morlite Aluminium worked alongside Naylor Love Construction on the project. “The design of the building was technically complex, the atrium was extremely challenging conceptually and the practical fabrication, transport and construction was similarly difficult. And yet the team at Morlite Aluminium pulled it off,” says Dave Hanning, Project Manager from Naylor Love Construction.

“The result highlights the attention to detail that was required and the pride that craftsmen involved take in undertaking tough challenges,” says Hanning.

As a member of the Window Association of New Zealand, all the windows and doors supplied by Morlite Aluminium are independently type tested to comply with the relevant New Zealand performance Standards and New Zealand Building Code requirements. 

Because Windows, Doors and Glazing are individually engineered in accordance with these standards for each building site location throughout New Zealand, customers are well satisfied with the performance of products supplied by members of the Window Association of New Zealand Inc.
