GLASS Association of New Zealand INDUSTRY AWARDS

BEST USE OF GLASS JOINT WINNER

MILLER DESIGN

FOR THE ANVIL PROJECT, DOMINION ROAD, AUCKLAND

Nothing Is What It Seems
Miller Design was a joint winner for the Best Use of Glass Award in the Window Association of New Zealand’s Design Flair Awards, held in June 2011. Their winning property was the Anvil Project in Mt Eden. “The three level building, still in construction, is a mixed use commercial property,” said glazier, Viridian Glass. “The unique curtain wall facade system is architecturally striking, with the undulating nature of each panel.”

The unique design of the Anvil Project attracted attention in the WANZ Awards. “The external skin reflects and encloses an inner spiral form,” said the judges. It is that strange Darth-Vader-like black box at the city end of Dominion Road. Viridian’s glass has gone into a building with a facade that is neither vertically or horizontally true. The colour, or lack of it, comes from the clever use of varying densities of black frit. The reflections are quite ‘whacky’. Nothing is what it seems.”

As a member of the Window Association of New Zealand, all the windows and doors supplied by Miller Design are independently type tested to comply with the relevant New Zealand performance Standards and New Zealand Building Code requirements.

Because Windows, Doors and Glazing are individually engineered in accordance with these standards for each building site location throughout New Zealand, customers are well satisfied with the performance of products supplied by members of the Window Association of New Zealand Inc.
